JD is a writer, comedian, mad activist, performer, playwright, theatre maker, inclusive educator and innovator. JD’s work involves things that look like books, plays, solo shows, community and artist collaboration, twine games, audio, digital interactions, event creation, participatory theatre experiences, co-design and stand-up comedy. JD has participated in the Banff Centre Playwright’s Lab and the Playwright’s Unit at Alberta Theatre Projects in Calgary with co-creator Adrienne Wong. JD is the founder of POD, a citizen design lab in Vancouver. Recent co-design projects include; Upcity, exploring vertical culture with kids, Mote Theatre, Me on the Map, Vancouver International Theatre Festival/ New World Theatre, Banff Centre for the Arts, The Republic of Inclusion, National Arts Centre, Ottawa, MOVE, Momo Performance + disability, Calgary and Inclusive Designer in Residence at Calgary Arts Development. JD is a recipient of a 2021 Fleck Fellowship at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Their auto-fiction work Mercy Gene: the man made making of a mad woman, was published by GooseLane in March 2023. In some bizarre twist of fate JD returned to school and completed a Masters in Inclusive Design at OCADU in 2014. Weird, still weird.
